661,673. Mine roof supports. DOLLERY & PALMER (PNEUMATIC TOOLS), Ltd. Oct. 15. 1948 [Oct. 16, 1947], No. 26900/48. Class 20(ii) Relates to a mine roof support comprising a steel bar adapted to be used in cantilever position, the bar 4 having reinforcing plates 2 between its flanges and extending over a part of its length, and consists in the provision of a relieving opening 1 intermediate the end of each reinforcing plate. The bending movements decrease towards the right hand end of the bar as shown and the end 3 of a reinforcing plate is displaced far enough in this direction for the stresses at the relieving opening, i.e. at section IVIV, to be higher than the stresses at the end 3. The bar should therefore bend at the relieving hole before rupturing at the end of the reinforcing plate.
