Abstract

661,640. Endless belt conveyers. LARSSON, O. E. Oct. 28, 1949. [Nov. 9, 1948] No. 27657/49. Class 78 (i). In a carton stapling machine in which a feedbelt for a carton blank travels at a constant speed, the blank is disengaged from the belt during the time in which the staples are driven in by rollers which during the feeding of the blank force the belt against it and during the stapling period are removed from the belt by arms controlled, e.g. by a cam driven at the same speed as the shaft of the stitching apparatus, braking strips being provided for stopping the movement of the blank during the period. The upper run of the belt 3 rests on rollers 7 mounted on arms 8 which are secured to shafts 10 mounted in the frame 1. Arms 9 mounted on the shafts 10 are connected to a link 11 which is urged towards the right by a spring 11a. An arm 12 depending from the link 11 carries a roller 13 which bears against a cam 14 driven from the shaft 15a of the stitching apparatus. Rollers 16 which rest on the carton blank are suspended by arms 17 from shafts 19 mounted in the framework and other arms 18 on the shafts are connected by a link 20 urged towards the left by a spring 21. The lower braking strip 22 is fixed to the frame 1 with its upper surface slightly above the position of the belt 3 during stapling. The upper braking strip is connected by arms 24 and pivots 25 to arms 26 fixed to shafts 27 rotatably mounted in the frame. Arms 28 on shafts 27 are connected by a link 29 urged to the right by a spring 29a. When the blank reaches a certain position, it actuates a switch and starts the stitching apparatus, thereby causing rotation of the cam 14. The rollers 7 descend and the blank is deposited on the strip 22. Simultaneously the link 29 moves to the right and the upper braking strip is lowered to arrest the blank. As the cam 14 continues to rotate, the link 11 is moved to the left and simultaneously the link 29 is moved in the same direction by a projection 30 on the link 11, thereby freeing the blank from the braking strip and lifting the rollers 7 to bring the belt into contact with the blank.
