1403396 Bag dispensing apparatus ETABS J MERAT and J VAUDEZ 13 Dec 1972 [17 Dec 1971] 57525/72 Heading A4T [Also in Division B8] In a bag dispenser a pile 2 of bags rests on platform 3, the top bag being dispensed through opening 7 by a contacting roller 5, control means causing the roller to rotate through a predetermined angle and the platform to move towards the roller via screw 4 to maintain the pressure of the bags on the roller constant. The periphery of rollers 5 has pins 28 or an adhesive or frictional surface and a portion e.g., gap 27, having no traction on the bags and which will be adjacent the bags at the beginning and end of a cycle of preferably one rotation. A cycle is started by actuation of a control switch 30. A vibrating roller drive motor 8 mounted on shock-absorber lever unit 9, 10 starts, electromagnetic 20 swings finger 22 off the top of the bag pile, cam 19 rotates with the roller shaft to lower suction pad 13 on to the pile via arm 12, solenoid 17 via arm 16 raises diaphragm 15 to create suction in pad 13, cam 19 lifts the top bag and finger 22 returns between the lifted bag and the remaining pile. A roller shaft cam 25 then lowers the roller which feeds the top bag through opening 6, 7 after diaphragm 15 is lowered to remove suction and the roller stops rotating and is lifted by cam 25 when the bag is ready for removal at 2a. The dispensing shoot 6, 7 is preferably vertical but may be horizontal and may contain a switch 29 in series with the starting switch and responsive to the presence of a bag in the shoot to prevent the starting of a fresh cycle. Screw 4 may be driven from the roller shaft via interchangeable chain and gearing 31-33 or by a separate motor and raises the platform, guided at 34, the thickness of a bag during a cycle or may raise the platform until a given pressure on the roller against the weight of the motor 8 acts on a pressure sensor which declutches the drive to the screw 4. The platform drive nut for screw 4 is in two halves which may be separated by lever 41 enabling the platform to be freely moved for loading with fresh bags. The control may allow a series of bags to be dispensed.
