Abstract

661,455. Filing papers. BLOORE, E. J. Oct. 17, 1949, No. 26635/49. Class 146 (i). A filing device for loose leaves comprises a tray 1 having cover or side members 8 hinged to the side edges 5 thereof and end walls 11 formed with pairs of horizontal slots 14, 15 having downwardly extending offset slot portions 16 at their inner ends, the slots being engaged by studs 20 on the free ends of pivotal link members 18, 19 pivoted to the cover members 8, and the studs 20 dropping into the slot portions 16 to lock the covers in their innermost position. Slots 14 and links 18 on the front cover are preferably longer than slots 15 and links 19, and the end walls 11 are upwardly tapered. The covers are hinged below the level of the slots 14, 15 so that the weight of the covers pushes the studs 20 into slots 16. The end walls 11 are formed with an inner flange 22 to engage notches 25 in the edges of flexible partitions 23, the partitions being held in position in notches 13 under the flanges 22. The tray 1 is supported on end plates 4 and to steady the tray in use, a flat bar (not shown) is pivoted to the underside of the tray between the plates 4 and can be turned crosswise of the tray to brace it laterally. A portion of the metal covers may be punched out and rolled over to form handles for carrying the device.
