[Classes 16 and 146 (i).] In document files in which document-holding covers 10, Fig. 1, are suspended from cross-bars 2 resting on and slidable along side rails 1, each cover 10 is unattached to its bar 2 so that when it is lifted out of the file its bar remains on the rails 1 and serves to indicate that a cover has been abstracted and the position thereof. The bar 2 is made of wire and consists of two horizontal parts 3, 5 joined by hooked parts 6, 6<1> for engaging the bars 1, the part 5 being offset slightly from the vertical plane containing the part 2. A flap 9 is provided on the cover 10 which is placed on the bar 2 with the part 3 engaging the fold 11 between the parts 9, 10 and the flap passed beneath the part 5. A device 7, Fig. 3, may be provided on each bar 2 to indicate when a cover has been removed and is formed of resilient material bent to V-shape and embracing both parts 3, 5 of the bar 2, with one limb longer than the other. When a cover is placed on its bar 2, the flap 9 engages the fold of the device 7 and depresses it so that it is concealed by the adjacent covers. On removing the cover, the device 7 springs upwardly so as to form a " removed " indicator.
