Abstract
661,239. Tin-openers. AKTIEBOLAGET NILSSON & JOHANSSON and LINDHAHL, H. W. April 8, 1949, No. 9590/49. Class 66 A traction wheel tin-opener has a main plate 1, Figs. 2 and 3, pivoted at 35 to a wall bracket 34 which allows the opener to be locked at any convenient one of several angular positions, the main plate 1 mounting a shaft 2 carrying the traction wheel 3 and a gear wheel 4 which meshes with a gear 9 on the cutter shaft 8 when the cutter wheel 10 has been lowered to.dig into the top wall of the tin to be opened. This is effected by turning the traction-wheel crank-handle 23 clockwise, Fig. 2, an intermediate, secondary crank or ledge 32 of the handle 23 engaging a lug 33 on a disc on the shaft 2, and a shoulder 21 engaging a stud 22, so that a plate 16 swings towards the shaft 2 and into the position shown in Fig. 2, a pin 14 passing through an arcuate slot 15 in the main plate being secured to the plate 16 on the one side of the main plate 1, and to an arm 6, Fig. 3, pivoted at 5, Fig. 2, on the other. side, the arm 6 having a "blister" 7 to which is secured the shaft 8. A reverse movement of the crank-handle withdraws the cutter-wheel 10 from the can and raises guide ledges 11 (on the arm 6) from the top of the can. A secondary arm 26 is pivoted at 27 and biassed to the position shown in Fig. 2 by a spring 29 in a slot in the arm 16 and is slotted to receive a stud 28 on the arm 16. An outwardly directed flange 31 of the secondary arm 26 contacts a stud 30 on the crank-handle 23, when it is turned to withdraw the cutter wheel &c. the crank-handle 23 being freely mounted on the shaft 2.
