Abstract

661,132. Polishing. CANNING& CO., Ltd., W., and POPE, G. A. June 30, 1950 [Aug. 15, 1949], No. 21167/49. Class 60. Work supporting and actuating means for use with a polishing machine of the kind having a rotary mop or brush b comprises a vertically slidable spindle h to carry a work support i, a horizontally movable slide f to carry the spindle, power-driven means for detachable engagement with the spindle, and pedal-operated means for moving the slide and spindle. The spindle carries a sprocket which engages an endless chain k when the slide f is moved by link and lever mechanism s connected to a spring or weight-loaded pedal. A similar mechanism t is used to raise the spindle h to bring the work into contact with the mop or brush. A number of polishing machines may be mounted on a single bench in order that their work holders can be driven from a single chain running in guides m and connected by reduction gearing to a source of power.
