Abstract

660,724. Eccentrics. RHODES, C. J. Feb. 16,1950 [June 13, 1949], No. 15730/49. Class 122(i) [Also in Group XXIV] The crank pin 4 of a crank-shaft 1 has mounted thereon an eccentric sleeve 7, rotational adjustment of which varies the throw of the crank. A cheek 5 of the crank'pin and an adjacent concentric flange 8 on the sleeve 7 are each provided with a set of teeth, both sets being engaged by an internally-toothed locking ring 10. The locking ring is axially located on the one side by the big end 12 and bush 13 of a connecting rod and on the other side by a horseshoe-shaped plate 11 straddling the crank-shaft 1 and removably bolted to a fixed member 2. The locking ring is preferably provided with pegs 14 by means of which it may be axially moved (after removal of the plate 11) to disengage the teeth on the flange 8 and allow rotational adjustment of the sleeve 7. The locking means may be duplicated by providing teeth on the cheek 6 and flange 9. The invention is shown applied to a press. Specification 449,834, [Group XXIV], is referred to.
