Abstract

659,862. Pulse discriminating circuits. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Oct. 13, 1947, No. 14929/50. Divided out of 659,819. [Class 40 (vi)] In an analyzer for classifying pulses according to their amplitude, pulses are derived from the input pulses which have a longer duration and an extended portion whose amplitude is determined by the peak amplitude of the input pulse present at that time and each derived pulse gives rise to an output pulse in a channel appropriate to the peak amplitude of the corresponding input pulse during the extended portion of the derived pulse. Fig. 4 shows a pulse analyzer in which a sequence of short pulses, Fig. 3 (a) from, for example, a Geiger counter, are applied to the input 1 of a pulse generator G1 which produces output pulses of longer duration, Fig. 3 (b) having an amplitude proportional to that of the corresponding input. pulse. The derived pulse of Fig. 3 (b) is applied to an amplitude discriminating circuit D as described in Specification 659,819 to prepare one of the counting channels Cl ... C5 in depen. dence on its amplitude and is also applied to the pulse generator G2 which produces a rectangular switching pulse, Fig. 3 (c) falling wholly within the duration of the flat top portion of the derived pulse. The switching pulses are applied either by connection 2a to condition the discriminator circuit D to pass a pulse to the prepared counting circuit or via connection 2b to gate circuits K in .all the counting circuits to condition them all to enable a pulse to be transmitted to the selectively-prepared one. The switching pulse may be fed back to generator Gl via lead 7 to terminate the derived pulse of Fig. 3 (b).
