Abstract

659,385. Collecting leakage oil from bearings. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. Oct. 31,1949, No. 27864. Convention date, Nov. 3, 1948. [Class 12 (i)] In a device for reducing the quantity of excess lubricant carried along with a cylindrical body . 1 adapted . to reciprocate within a cylinder 4, a conical slot is formed between the body and cylinder, having its greatest transverse dimension adjacent the space 2a which is required to be kept free from excess lubricant, so .that during the reciprocating movement, excess lubricant is pumped out of this slot, and means are provided for reducing the thickness. of lubricant film during the reciprocation of the body.. An annular member 5 of trapezoidal cross-section disposed above the conical. part has a bore 6 serving as a guide for the member 1 and sides 7, 8 acting as scraping edges which return excess lubricant, to the conical slot through a channel 10. The bore 9 adjacent the working space 2a is made sufficiently large to prevent lubricant from being scraped off the member 1 and entering the space 2a.
