[Class 98 (ii)] Stains on colour images produced in photographic silver halide emulsions by colour development are prevented by washing the colour developed material after bleaching and prior to drying with an aqueous solution containing a water-soluble condensation product of formaldehyde and a compound of one of the formulµ wherein at least one Y is an amino group having at least one reactive hydrogen atom, the remaining Y's being either hydrogen, hydroxy, halogen, alkyl, alkylene, aryl, or aralkyl, Z is either H, amino, hydroxy, alkyl, alkoxy, phenyl, phenylene, mercapto, alkylthio, or hydrazino, at least two Z's being primary amino or hydrazino groups, X is H or a primary amino group, and R is a halogen atom or a hydroxy, hydrazino, alkoxy, phenyl, or alkylthio group. The condensation product may be incorporated into a gelatine solution which is used as a surface coating for the processed colour photographic material. The colour couplers may be incorporated in the emulsion layers, or the material may be processed to colour by selective second exposures followed by colour developments using the appropriate couplers. In example (1), exposed multilayer material is developed in a black-and-white developer, treated in a stop bath, washed, colour developed, rinsed, hardened, washed, treated in a bleaching bath consisting of an aqueous solution of dipotassium mono-sodium ferricyanide, potassium bromide, disodium phosphate, sodium bisulphate, and formaldehyde, washed, fixed in a hypo-borax bath, washed, and treated in an aqueous solution of a formaldehyde-cyanurtrihydrazide condensation product. In examples 2, 3, and 4, the procedure is similar, using aqueous solutions of 2: 4: 6-trimethylolaminopyrimidine and trimethylolmelamine (both 3 and 4).
