Abstract

1,163,194. Photographic silver halide colour development. EASTMAN KODAK CO. Jan.27, 1967 [Feb.1, 1966], No.4074/67. Heading G2C. An improved magenta image having reduced highlight stain is obtained by developing an exposed photographic silver halide emulsion layer in the presence of a magenta-forming colour coupler with a colour developer containing a primary aromatic amine colour developing agent, a compound of the formula RNHOH (I) where R is hydrogen or alkyl or a water-soluble acid salt thereof and a compound of the formula R1 R2 NOH (II) where R1 and R2 are each alkyl or a water-soluble acid salt thereof. The coupler may be present in the silver halide material or in the colour developer. A developing bath may be used to develop successive quantities of exposed colour material and may be replenished by a solution of developing agent, compounds I and II and, if necessary, the coupler. The process may be used in the colour development stage of processing reversal multi-layer colour material having red-, green- and blue-sensitive emulsion layers, particularly material containing no colour couplers.
