Abstract

659,254. Timepieces. MORF, E. July 12, 1949, No. 18420. Convention date, Dec. 2, 1948. [Class 139] In timepieces, the balance staff assembly comprising pivots and hollow cylindrical parts has conical shanks carrying the pivots and projecting from the inside of the hollow cylindrical parts, which latter co-operate with fixed bearing parts to absorb radial components of shock after limited bending of the shanks. The balance staff 1, Fig. 1, has conical ends 6 with pivots 7 which engage fixed pierced jewels 8. The staff carries a collet 5 and a roller 3 having extensions 13 and 14 respectively which enter holes 11 and 12 in jewel settings 9 and 10. When shock forces are transmitted to the staff in a radial direction the ends 6 bend until the extensions 13 and 14 abut their respective settings 9 and 10. In another embodiment (not shown), the collet 5 is not mounted directly on the staff but on a hollow member carried thereby which member is provided with an extension which enters the hole in the top bearing setting.
