[Class 64(ii)] [Also in Group VI] Eggs &c. 21 placed on an annular tray 17 are lifted above the cooking water in a receptacle 20 after a predetermined cooking period by means of the expanding air in a hollow base 10 the air forcing upwards a piston 14 in a cylinder 11 co-axial and integral with the base 10. The handle 19 by which the device is placed in the cooking water secures the egg tray 17 to the piston rod 13 by the upper part of the extension sleeve 18 of the tray. The base 10 has insulation 15 which fixes the cooking time. In a modification, Fig. 3, the air in a hollow base 39 eventually forces the base free from a fixed stopper 41 whereby the base can then float up to lift the egg 21 out of the water. The base slides on guides 36. The base is heat insulated to determine the cooking time. The cooking time can be adjusted by an insulating sleeve 42, Fig. 4, exposed to the water and slidable on the pillar cylinder 11 whereby pressure is built up on the back of the piston to lengthen the cooking time or vice versa. In another adjustable timer, Fig. 5, (not shown) the rate of heat transference to the air acting on the bottom of the piston is varied by a sliding insulated pillar 25 (not shown). In a further modification, Fig. 6, the timing is varied by adjusting the nuts 51 of tension springs 49 whereby the rise of the piston rod 13 can be delayed by means of ramps 45 thereon engaging with pivoted straps 46 the position of which is adjusted by nuts 51 so that eventually the ramps 45 force the straps 46 outwards until clear of the ends of 45 and so allow the piston to shoot up. The piston carries wire 52 bent into lower loops, (not shown), to carry the eggs. The chamber containing air for forcing up the piston may alternatively contain water or other liquid some of which is evaporated to produce steam or other vapour pressure acting to lift the piston.
