658,337. Ice-cream freezers. CREAMERY PACKAGE MANUFACTURING CO. March 1, 1949, No. 5580. Convention date, March 13, 1948. [Class 29] [Also in Group II] Apparatus for freezing ice-cream or other fluent material comprises a cylinder 1 having a freezing jacket 3, 4 and containing a longitudinally-extending dasherbody 21 formed with from three to six plane or slightly concave or convex faces 22 meeting in corners 23, each face carrying a pivoted scraper blade 34. The irregular form of the dasher-body aids the mixing and, since the body is closed, no central stagnant area is formed in the mix. Ice cream mix and air are pumped into the cylinder through pipes 19, 20 respectively and the frozen product is withdrawn by a pump through a pipe 12. The entry end of the dasher-body 21 carries four scrapers sweeping the same area of cylinder wall but slightly staggered and the exit end carries four scrapers staggered so that the cylinder wall is traversed by two scrapers only. The scrapers 34, which have sharpened edges, are reversible so as to be self-sharpening. The dasher may be removed after removal of a plate 14 secured by screws 15. In modifications, the dasherbody 21 may have three faces or may taper from one end to the other. The cylinder is provided with an inspection opening 16.
