[Class 50] To prevent the heads 4 of wax matches from becoming detached from the stems, which each consist of a fibrous stem 1 coated with paraffin wax or the like 2, a firmer hold for the igniting composition forming the heads is provided by melting or dissolving off the wax. coating from one end 3 of each stem and then dipping the end 3 into the composition which adheres securely to the uncovered fibres, as in Fig. 2. Alternatively, as in Figs. 3 and 4, the ends 3, with the wax coating 2 removed or not, may be coated with a combustible substance such as stearic acid, to form a layer 5 thereon, the ends then being dipped into the igniting composition which adheres more securely to the layer 5 than it would to the wax coating 2. ,
