[Classes 103(ii) and 103(v)] A buffer for a rail car comprises a bumper plate 2, adapted to be attached directly to the car frame 4 as by bolts at 3, a rubber cushion 1 in front of the bumper plate, a sheet of rubber 7 behind the bumper plate and pads of rubber 9 passing through the bumper plate and homogeneous with the rubber before and behind the bumper plate.
