[Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group II] Apparatus for the production and supply of a foamed dispersion of rubber comprises an airtight chamber enclosing a vessel provided with power-driven means for foaming a rubber dispersion supplied thereto and means for establishing an air pressure inside the chamber in excess of the external air pressure to force the foamed dispersion through outlet means to a vulcanizing mould. As shown, a foaming vessel 1 and a sensitizing vessel 2 are enclosed within an air-tight chamber 3. Rubber dispersion and air are introduced into the bottom of vessel 1 from pipes 14, 12 respectively, the air passing into the vessel through a perforated plate 10, and are beaten into foam by a whip 17 which is rotated with planetary motion about the shaft of a motor 16. The foamed rubber is delivered to a sensitizing vessel 2 by a spout 9 together with a sensitizing fluid delivered from a pipe 24, the foamed condition of the rubber being maintained by a whip 21 driven with planetary motion by a motor 20. A scraper 23 is provided to keep the walls of the vessel 2 clear of deposit. The foamed rubber is discharged from the vessel 2 through a pipe 19 by means of a pressure in the container, of about one pound per square inch above the external pressure, acting on the surface of the foamed dispersion in the vessel 2, the required pressure being set up by means of an air supply introduced to the container through a pipe 4 and pressure reducing valve 5. The discharge is controlled by a valve 28 which comprises a diaphragm 29 held closed by air pressure supplied by a pipe 31 and opened by a spring 30 when the air pressure is cut off by a valve 32. The discharged foam passes along a flexible pipe 33 which terminates at a nozzle 34 which is adapted to be inserted into moulds 37 carried along by a conveyer 38. Specification 572,166 is referred to.
