Abstract
657,929. Continuous casting - machines. MOND NICKEL CO., Ltd. May 19, 1949, No. 13447. Convention date, June 4, 1948. [Class 83 (i)] A continuous casting-machine comprises a vertical open-ended mould split longitudinally into sections and means for rapidly oscillating the sections transversely with a small amplitude of movement decreasing from the top to the bottom of the mould. Molten metal is poured into an open-ended mould consisting of two sections 7 each held within a part-circular yoke 8 pivotally mounted at the bottom in a bearing 10 carried by an adjustable arm 11. The upper end of each yoke has a projection in the form of a socket which receives the spherical end 22 of a connecting-rod 25 pivoted at 27 to members forming part of an eccentric head 6 adapted to be driven from a shaft 5 to cause oscillation of the upper end of the mould section. The amplitude of movement of the connecting-rod is from two thousandths to fifty thousandths of an inch and the frequency from one hundred to fifteen hundred per minute. Specification 514,719 is referred to.
