Abstract
656,159. Stuffing-box substitutes. COMPAGNIE DE PRODUITS CHIMIQUES ET ELECTRO-METALLURGIQUES ALAIS, FROGES, & CAMARGUE. June 1, 1948, No. 14746. Convention date, June 12, 1947. [Class 122(v)] In a sealing device between the stationary and moving portions of a rotary furnace a sponge rubber ring 4 is housed in a cooled groove 2<SP>1</SP> in the stationary portion 2, a cooled ring 10 abuts the outer side of the sponge rubber ring and a wear resistant annulus 5 secured to the cooled ring 10 is in rubbing contact with a rib 6 of the moving portion 7 of the furnace. The groove 2<SP>1</SP> and the. ring 10 are cooled by water circulation and the rib 6 may be removable to facilitate replacement of the rubber ring 4. A plurality of such seals may be mounted in series in cases where it is required to absorb considerable expansion.
