Abstract

655,774. Substation circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. July 9, 1948, No. 18469. [Class 40 (iv)] In a substation of the anti-side-tone type comprising a transmitter 4 and a receiver 5, the energizing voltage applied to the transmitter is maintained substantially constant when the instrument is connected to lines of different characteristics by the use of a non-linear resistance 7, which may be a thermistor. Alternative circuits are shown in Figs. 2 and 4. The thermistor may be protected from damage when the transmitter branch of the circuit is opened by the provision of a path across the transmitter of large negative coefficient of resistance in relation to applied volts and instantaneous in action.
