Abstract

1318870 Substation circuits GENERAL ELECTRIC CO Ltd 7 July 1970 [9 July 1969] 34640/69 Heading H4K A transistor 11 is connected in series with a tone caller 2 in a telephone substation and is only turned-on, to allow energization of the tone caller, by prolonged ringing voltages, whereby voltage transients, e.g. dialling impulses on the line are ineffective on the tone caller and speech signals picked up by the transducer in the tone caller are not inadvertently sent to line. These eventualities are of particular importance when the line is shared with other substations. A Zener diode 5 limits the voltage applied to the transistor as well as that applied to the tone caller to about 9 volts. The device is of utility on party lines wherein a transient due to ringing for one party is not permitted to "tinkle" the other party's tone caller.
