Abstract

671,784. Substation circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. May 15, 1950, No. 12045/50. Addition to 655,774. Class 40 (iv). In a substation comprising a transmitter 12 of the variable resistance type and a receiver 15, the energizing voltage applied to the transmitter is controlled by a D.C. shunt comprising a non-linear resistance 11. The resistance of the element 11, which may be a dry rectifier or a substance of the silicon carbide type, falls when the voltage applied to it increases and rises when the voltage decreases substantially independently of any effect due to the interrelation between temperature and resistance. The invention is applied to various known anti-side-tone substation circuits, Figs. 2-5, and to a circuit, Fig. 9, in which a switch 80 is operated by a subscriber wishing to speak, and it may also be applied to a side-tone circuit, Fig. 1 (not shown). A method of calculating the performance of the circuits is described. Specifications 542,643 and 591,495 are referred to.
