[Class 81(i)] A fumigating device comprises an annular porous carrier 10 impregnated with a volatile substance enclosed in an annular casing 17 adapted for mounting around the narrow end of an, electric light bulb, or a lamp globe or chimney, the casing being provided with air inlet openings 25 and air outlet openings 26. The casing is preferably made in two parts, a downturned flange 21 of the upper part 20 embracing an upstanding neck 19 on the lower part 18, and its central opening being defined by two incurved flanges 22 and 23 on the respective parts. According to a modification the peripheral flanges of the interfitting upper and lower parts are provided with a series of openings which can be regulated shutterwise by relative rotation to provide further and adjustable air openings. According to a further modification the two halves of the casing are provided with internal projections to space the carrier from the upper and lower walls of the casing. An adjustable and removable ring may be arranged in the gaps between the flanges 22 and 23. The carrier may be made of a non-combustible substance such as gypsum ; or matted glass fibres as described in British Specification 655,298. Suitable impregnating substances are D.D.T., benzene hexachloride, azobenzene, hexaethyl tetraphosphate, chlorinated camphene, iodine, menthol, thymol, triethylene glycol, camphor paradichlorbenzene. An insect-exciting substance such as dimethylphthalate may be included. The second Provisional Specification describes also carrier means mounted on a wire or other spider adapted to fit around a lamp bulb, the limbs of the spider radiating horizontally or at an angle ; in another form a plurality of rod-like arms upstand vertically from a collar fitted on the heat source; in other modifications the carrier takes the form of a jacket arranged around the heat source, or one or more discs placed in the path of air on a ventilating duct; in another modification the unit is made self-heating, e.g. the impregnated carrier is a cylinder surrounding an electric heating element.
