Abstract
655,222. Blasting devices for perforating well casings and the like. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I. Oct. 4, 1948, No. 25868. Convention date, June 5. [Class 9 (i)] An explosive device for perforating well casings comprises a high density explosive charge 3 having a conical recess at one end into which fits a frangible liner 1 provided with a conical or convex closure 2 integral with the liner. The liner is preferably of glass, and the charge may be cast 50-50 pentolite. The charge is enclosed in a thermosetting synthetic resin casing 4 and contains a booster charge 5 enclosed in a metal tube and initiated by a length of Primacord 6. The Primacord, which may be initiated by an electric blasting cap, is held in place by a clip 7. Suitable alternative compositions given for the charge 3 are pentaerythritol tetranitrate, cyclotrimethylene-trinitramine, ethylenedinitramine, or blends of these with trinitrotoluene. The booster charge may be 10 grms of pentaerythritol tetranitrate primed with 3 gms. of lead azide. The Primacord is enclosed in a metal tube e.g. aluminium, copper. The closure 2 may be rounded and the frangible material may be glass.
