[Classes 19 and 138(i)] A device for removing dust from carpets, clothes, animal skins and the like comprises a hollow body, of which at least one wall is of dielectric material and provided with apertures communicating with the interior of the body, a movable cover, and one or more partitions of dielectric material disposed inside the body. The device, Figs.; 1 and 3, comprises a hollow container 1 in which are arranged partitions 4, 5, fastened together, and a cover 2. The bottom of the container which forms the working surface is perforated as at 3. All the members or at least the working surface are made of a dielectric material such as ebonite, celluloid or the like. In operation the device is gripped by the hand. and rubbed over the surface to be cleaned. Electricity produced by the friction, exerts an attraction on the dust particles entering the holes 3 due to the circulation of air set up by the to-and-fro movement of the device, and remain held on the inside walls through this attraction. To increase the cleaning effect the holes are shaped as shown in Fig. 7. They are elongated and inclined to the direction of movement of the device shown by the arrows 18. The edges of the holes 16 project as at 17 from the bottom 15 of the device. The edges of the holes inside the device may be likewise raised. The side walls 19 are curved to facilitate gripping by the hand. In another embodiment for cleaning carpets a hollow body is provided with partitions which may be removable in the manner of a drawer and a handle and the whole of the body or the side walls and working surface may be made of transparent celluloid.
