Abstract

654,731. Valve relay circuits. HOLLAND, E. O., and PYE, Ltd. Aug. 31, 1948, No. 22894. [Class 40 (vi)] In a resistance coupled trigger-pair counting circuit the stability of the circuit is increased by connecting the input and output circuits to different electrodes of the multi-grid valves which comprise the trigger-pair. The Figure shows a trigger-pair circuit in which there are cross-couplings from the anode of each valve to the control grid of the other valve and a common cathode resistor R8. Negative-going triggering pulses are applied to the anode circuits at point I and the output pulse which is obtained from each two triggering pulses is taken from the screen-grid circuit of each valve. The common anode resistor R7 may be replaced by two separate resistors and separate triggering pulses applied to the anodes of the two valves. A number of such circuits may be connected in tandem to form a binary chain and pulses from a later stage may be fed back to a preceding stage to obtain a desired count which may not be a multiple of two. Hexode or heptode valves may be used, the triggering pulses being applied to one or more of the mixing grids of each valve and the output taken from the screen grid of one valve.
