Abstract
654,502. Cathode-ray tubes. WHEELDON, A. J. D., and WHEELDON, D. P. Oct. 18, 1948, No. 26968. [Class 39 (i)] A multiple-beam tube has a common cathode 8, a common first anode 1 and a number of separate control electrodes 4, forming a number of triode units generating distinct beams in conjunction with a common second anode 10. As shown, the cathode is supported in a ceramic insulator 3 provided with a number of conical apertures 5; the top conical walls of these apertures are coated with common anode coating 1, while the bottom conical walls are coated with separate control coatings 4. Second anode 10 has separate apertures for each beam and these pass through corresponding apertures in final anode 14, Fig. 3, to separate deflecting systems 20. Ceramic ring 13 carrying the triode assembly, together with second and final anodes 10, 14 and deflecting plates, are all supported by rods 16. According to the Provisional Specification each beam may fall on a separate fluorescent screen for stereoscopic presentation, or for showing different functions in different colours.
