Abstract

Milling apparatus includes a pair of rollers maintained close together without touching and rotatable at different peripheral speeds, the rollers having oblique circumferential grooves inclined in the same direction on the two rollers at their co-operating faces, the grooves of the faster roller having the greater inclination with respect to the line of contact so that as these pass the grooves of the slow roller the material being milled tends to ride up the grooves of the slow roller instead of being pushed down the grooves, and between the rollers. The ratio of peripheral speeds is 10:1 or more, preferably about 50:1.
