Abstract
654,010. Ironing-machines. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP MACHINEFABRIEK REINVELD. Oct. 1, 1948, No. 25600. Convention date, Oct. 27,1947. [Class 138 (ii)] In a laundry ironing-machine comprising means for varying the pressure between a roller 4 and bed 5, the roller or the bed being associated with a lever system whereby they can be moved towards and away from one another by means of a shaft 12 associated with mechanism for imparting rotary movement to the shaft, all members of the lever system are rigid and a resilient element is interposed in the mechanism. In one example (Fig. 2), bearings 6 for the roller 4 are mounted on horizontal arms 13 pivoted to the frame, and crank-rods 8 are pivotally connected at one end to the bearings and at the other to cranks 10 keyed to the shaft 12. A toothed segment 14 is keyed to the shaft 12 and meshes with a worm 16 keyed to a shaft 15 movable lengthwise in bearing-blocks 17, 18. A collar 19 on the shaft 15 abuts against bearing 18 and a spring 20 is interposed between bearing 17 and the worm 16. By turning a hand wheel 15a on shaft 15 in one direction the roller may be lifted away from the bed 15 in a circular path about the axis of rotation of arms 13, and by turning the hand wheel in the other direction the roller is urged by the spring 20 against the bed. A scale 21 enables the operator to read the distance from collar 19 to block 18 corresponding to the length of spring 20, this being a measure of the pressure between the roller and bed. In a second example (Fig. 3, not shown) the collar 19 on shaft 15 is replaced by a spring interposed between the worm 16 and bearing 18. In a modification the two springs are replaced by a single spring which through part of its stroke is under tension and through another part is compressed. In further modifications the cranks 10 may be replaced by eccentrics and the coiled springs by rubber buffers. In an alternative construction the roller is supported in stationary bearings and the bed adapted to be moved towards the roller by means of the lever system and mechanism described. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the replacement of the coiled springs by counterweights. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
