Abstract

653,419. Stopping shafts in predetermined positions. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL, Ltd. Oct. 1, 1948, No. 25621. Convention date, Oct. 4, 1947. [Class 80(ii)] [Also in Group XL(c)] Stop-pawls 5, angularly and axially spaced about a rotary shaft 1 on rockshafts 6, and each cooperating with one of a number of peripherally notched discs 2 arranged along the shaft, to stop the latter in predetermined angular positions, as for tuning a radio receiver or transmitter, are positively lifted out of their notches 3 in the stop-discs 2 by the movement of the pawl-selector mechanism, which comprises a single annular cam surface 10 on a coaxial rotary selector-wheel 9 and having a single gap or depression which in an appropriate set position, admits a selected one of a number of coplanar pins 8, one on each rockshaft 6, thereby permitting a spring 17 to act on a radially-guided member 13 (shown axially out of place) so that its curved undersurface 14 urges the pin 8 down into the gap, thus causing the corresponding pawl 5 to enter its stop-disc notch 3 to stop the shaft 1 in the selected position. On the first movement of the selectorwheel 9 towards a new position, one of the bevelled sides 11 of the cam-gap positively cams out the operative pin 8, lifting the corresponding pawl 5 out of its stop-wheel notch 3, which frees the shaft 1 for rotation until arrested in the new position by a selected pawl 5. The idle pins 8 ride on or near the cam surface 10 under the influence of a spring or stop (not shown). In Fig. 2, not shown, the slot-guided member 13 and spring 17 are replaced by a single bent-wire spring.
