Abstract

653,219. Potato harvester. NELSON, S. B. Nov. 19, 1948, No. 30080. Convention date, Nov. 22, 1947. [Class 6(iii)] A stone separating device for use with, or mounted on, a potato harvester comprises two rotatable drums 1, 3, both open at each end and spaced apart by members 4. The lifted crop is fed into one end of the inner drum 3 by means of an elevator 5 on the harvester. Potatoes and stones fall through holes 6 in the drum 3 and the foliage and large stones are fed to the delivery end of the drum 3 by means of a continuous spiral shaped flange 7. The outer drum 1 is covered with wire netting or lattice work through which falls the earth and small stones. The potatoes are carried by guide plates 8 to the delivery end of the drum and are deposited outside the drum to be sorted preferably by an air blast which separates the potatoes from the stones. Catch plates 9 may be provided for dealing with large potatoes and the drums may be inclined downwards towards the delivery end.
