Abstract
652,914. Delivering measured quantities of liquids. THERMOCONTROL INSTALLATIONS CO., Ltd., COUGHTRIE, Q., and COX, A. E. Nov. 26, 1948, No. 30785. [Class 106(v)] A device for delivering measured quantities of liquids which is fitted into the neck of an inverted bottle or other closed vessel a comprises a container 3 embodying a discharge sleeve 17 slidably mounted by means of an inner sleeve 9 on a hollow stem 4 suitably formed to fit within the neck of the bottle. The stem 4 is closed towards its lower end by a plug 10 lateral inlet ports 12 being cut immediately above the plug. A measuring cup 14 is fitted to the bottom of the stem the base of the stem adjacent the bottom of the cup embodying outlet ports 15. In operation the liquid flows from a into the container 3 until it reaches the level b when the flow stops barometrically. By placing a glass in the position shown the U-shaped spring-loaded angle member 19 is displaced and forces the container 3 downwards by the engagement of pins 23, formed one on each side of the container, with slots 22 so that ports 15 register higher than the discharge sleeve 17 the inlet ports 12 in'the stem being automatically closed by the downward movement of the sleeve 9. On discharge, the upper part of the container is vented to the atmosphere via recess 25 cut in the enlarged portion 8 of the stem and port 24 in the sleeve 9. According to the Provisional Specification in a modification the container 3 defines the measuring cup which may be horizontally partitioned level with the lower end of sleeve 9
