Abstract

Dyes are made by heating Bz.2 : Bz.21-dihydroxydibenzanthrone or a nuclear substitution product thereof containing one or more halogen, alkyl, or alkoxy groups as nuclear substituents, or an alkali metal salt of these compounds, with a 9.9-dihalofluorene or a nuclear substitution product thereof containing one or more halogen, alkyl, or alkoxy groups as nuclear substituents, forming a cyclic ether of the formula: <FORM:0652818/IV (c)/1> The products dye or print cotton bright blue shades, and may be converted to leuco-sulphoric ester salts by usual methods. An example describes the condensation of Bz.2.Bz.21-dihydroxy-dibenzanthrone with 9.9-dichlorofluorene in nitrobenzene in presence of sodium acetate.
