Abstract
652,269. Leaf springs. WILLYS-OVERLAND MOTORS, Inc. Jan. 2, 1948, No. 147. Convention date, Jan. 10, 1947. [Class 108 (iii)] An insert for disposition between adjacent leaves of a leaf-spring is formed of non-metallic material having portions of ,varying- thickness in transverse crosssection, of which the lateral edge portions are of greater thickness than the central body portion. In the embodiment shown, the insert is formed with reinforcing portions 33 which are secured to a flat portion 32 of the insert by staking or stitching and which conform to a chamfered configuration of the lower edges of spring leaves between which the insert is placed. The insert may be fabricated or composed of paper, fibre, felt or other non- metallic fibrous material and is impregnated with a moisture resistant and lubricating compound such as " Silenite " having paraffin wax and stearic acid as major constituents. The flat and reinforcing portions 32 and 33 respectively may be formed as a single element.
