[Class 37] [Also in Group XXXVIII] In a recording speed measuring instrument, Fig. 1, a tachometer generator G produces an A.C. signal whose frequency is proportional to the drive speed, which is limited, squared and differentiated in valves V1, V2, V3, and deflects a galvanometer R1 which records a trace on a moving tape T. A piezo-electric oscillator V4, V41 produces a standard signal at 100 kc/s. which is broken down in multivibrators such as V5, V51 to a 100 c/s. signal which is limited, squared, and differentiated in valves V9, V10 and deflects a galvanometer R2 whose trace is also recorded on the tape. A further multivibrator V8, V81 produces a 10 c/s. signal which is superimposed on the 100 c/s. signal in V9 to enlarge every 10th peak. The two records are comparable by a cursor C which is laterally movable along the tape and pivotable about A. The signals may be displayed on a double beam C.R.O.
