Abstract

651,200. Making concrete beams &c. ANTONELLO, F. June 3, 1947, No. 14712. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Dec. 23.] [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Groups X and XXI] Concrete structures such as beams, pillars, piles, &c. are made by pouring concrete into a mould comprising a plurality of individual sections assembled in juxtaposed relationship so as to form a corresponding number of individual concrete wall members and then, before the concrete has completely solidified, rotating at least one of the wall members, with or without the corresponding mould section or sections, about the adjacent edges thereof to form a structure, e.g. of polygonal shape in crosssection. Four examples are given, all of which describe making hollow triangular-section beams. (1) (Figs. 6 and 7.) Three concrete wall members 2 are cast side by side upon three juxtaposed mould sections x, re-inforcing skeletons are inserted in the concrete, and the edges of adjacent wall members are mitred as at 3. When the concrete has almost solidified, cement paste 4 is inserted into the mitres and the outer wall sections are pivoted towards each other until their edges meet (Fig. 7). At the meeting point p the projecting reinforcements are connected to each other and the joint is sealed with cement paste. (2) (Figs. 8, 11, 13.) The concrete is cast into-a mould, Fig. 8, divided into three compartments by fillets 7 which form mitres on the under sides of the edges of the wall members 2, reinforcement being accommodated in grooves 8 in the fillets and the mould sides 1. Before the concrete has completely solidified it is removed from the mould and placed upside down on juxtaposed assembly tools z, where the mitres are filled in with cement paste 4. Each tool z comprises three parts hinged together at 8<SP>1</SP>. The outer members of the tools are brought together as shown in Fig. 13 to form the completed structure. (3) (Figs. 14 to 20, not shown) The concrete is cast directly on to a threesection hinged mould, which is then folded up as shown in Fig. 15. The furrows are formed by removable mould pieces. (4) (Figs. 23, 29, 30.) Here also the concrete is cast directly on to a three-section hinged mould, and in order to hold the concrete wall members in the mould whilst the mould sections are being brought together, cover members 15 each formed in two sections hinged at 16 are placed on the concrete in the two end mould sections and secured to the mould by keys 17 passing through slots 14 in members 15 and through corresponding slots in the mould end sections. The mould is then folded as shown in Fig. 29, and when the concrete has hardened the wedges are removed, the members 15 collapsed as shown in Fig. 30 and removed, and finally the mould is removed. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 described L-section and U-section members made by the invention. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
