Abstract

650,925. Door checks, door stops. THOMPSON, H. G., and SARJENT, F. K. Dec. 6, 1948, No. 31518. [Class 65(i)] In a door check of the dashpot type having a cylinder 1 adapted to be secured to the door frame and containing a piston 10 urged outwardly by a spring 13, the axis of the cylinder and that part of the piston rod 4 which enters the cylinder is curved to a circular are, so that the check may be fitted with said arc concentric with the door hinges. The piston rod and its guide opening 7 are both of square cross section, the latter being formed with grooves 16. The end of the piston rod carries a resilient buffer 5. The checking action is adjusted by tightening or slackening either the screwed cylinder head 8 or a screw 18 fitted therein. In a modification one or more grooves are formed in the cylinder wall near its inner end, and holes are formed through the outer end wall of the cylinder. The parts of the check may be formed by moulding from a plastic. The, check may also be secured to the door, or alternatively to the floor so as to serve as a door stop.
