Abstract

<PICT:0649576/III/1> Apparatus for treating liquids with electromagnetic and/or electrostatic fields under ionizing conditions whilst flowing of a film over a tubular conduit 9 comprises feed means 2, a closed p chamber 5, collecting means 15, vacuum producing means 17 and means 16 for introducing an inert or processing gas into the chamber. One electrode 27 is inside the conduit whilst the other, 39, of spaced segmental form (see Fig. 2, not shown), surrounds the conduit. The edges of the segments of the electrode 39 are serrated to induce a corona discharge effect so that the liquid is subjected to emitted metallic ions from the electrode which may be nickel, zinc, silver, thorium, thoriated nickel, borated copper and/or alloys. The provisional Specification describes also a pair of feeding hoppers which may contain the same or different substances for subsequent mixing in a header which has a stirrer blade therein from whence the substance passes to the feed means. From the header the material passes through an atomizer and is discharged as a spray into the chamber. The receiver 15 may be fitted with a regulated magnetizing coil. Applications of the apparatus are the separation of fusel oil from alcohol, improvement of the physiological value of nutrients or the curative value of medicaments, and the dissociation of acids.
