Abstract
649,360. Push-button tuning mechanism. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. June 11, 1948, No. 15751. Convention date, Sept. 18, 1947. [Class 40 (v)] In a push-button tuning mechanism each reciprocatory member 44, 46 is movable by a push-button 48 and carries an adjustable cam 56 co-operating with two rods 32 connected at each end by pivoted side-members and coupled by links 34 to a rod 20 slidable in slots in the side frame members 4, 6, to adjust the tuning cores 18 of the coils, the cam 56 being locked in position or released by relative movement between the bars 44, 46. The cam 56 is pivotally mounted on the bar 44 and a bowed bar 66 engages the surface of the cam and extends through an aperture 70 in a bent-out portion of bar 44, a strap 76 attached to the bar 46 engaging the other end 78 of bar 66, which is bent outwardly so that forcing the strap 76 to the rear forces the end 78 down against the action of spring 74 to lock the cam. The bar 46, which carries a push-button 48, extends beyond the bar 44 and has an elongated slot 50 in which is located a rivet 52 provided with a spring washer 54 and carried by the bar 44. To pre-set the tuning the cam is unlocked by pulling the button 48 out beyond its normal position, as determined by the spring 80, as shown in Fig. 3. The receiver is tuned to the desired station by manual means (not shown) and the button 48 is pressed in so that the cam 56 engages both members 32, this stopping the cam from further rotation. The bar 46 then slides with respect to bar 44, forces the bar 66 down to lock the cam, and is retained in position by a projection 82 on bar 44 which fits into an opening 84 on bar 46, the spring 80 returning the assembly to its normal position.
