Abstract
649,081. Dispensing liquid fuel. S.A.T.A.M. SOC. ANON. POUR TOUS APPAREILLAGES MECANIQUES. April 26, 1945, No. 10482. Convention date, Sept. 13, 1943. [Class 116] Apparatus for dispensing measured quantities of fluid in any one of two (or more) different units of measurement at the will of the operator comprises a main valve 4 in the delivery pipe B, a fluid meter 1 driving two (or more) indicators 11, 12 each indicating different units of measurement, two (or more) byepasses 5-6, 5-7 round the main valve, a pilot-valve 8, 9 in each byepass, each indicator controlling the closing of one of said pilot valves through a " quick " cam 13, 14, and means such as a cock 10 for closing, selectively, all the byepasses except one. As shown, the indicator 11 measures in volume units and the other in price units. The indicators and cams are initially in the zero position, the valves 8 and 9 being closed: Delivery commences through an auxiliary byepass (not shown) when the nozzle at the end of the delivery line is opened. This causes the meter 1, indicators 11, 12 and cams 13, 14 to rotate, the cams opening valves 8 and 9 through levers 15, 16. Delivery then increases causing the valve 4 to open due to the resultant pressure on a diaphragm 4a caused by the flow through a hole 4b through which passes all the liquid flowing through the byepass. When delivery is nearly complete the operator partially closes the nozzle to reduce the flow below that required to maintain the valve 4 open. This valve then closes and delivery continues through whichever byepass is open until cut off by the pilot valve in that byepass closing when the associated indicator reaches the zero position. The main valve maintains the valves 8 and 9 open, while the nozzle is fully open, during the passage of the cams, one rotation of which corresponds to a single unit, through the previous zero positions. The auxiliary byepass is closed by a dash-pot arrangement (not described) shortly after delivery commences until shortly after the byepass pilot valve closes to stop delivery. The operator closes the nozzle when the delivery stops. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 2, the indicators 21, 22 are of the " predetermining " type and each controls a pilot-valve 8 or 9 in two stages. The devices are initially set so that one indicates the desired quantity in the desired units, this automatically opening valves 8 and 9 through cranks 23, 24. On opening the nozzle delivery commences through the byepass not closed by the cock 10 (which has been suitably set), causing the valve 4 to open as before. When the appropriate indicator has been returned nearly to zero the associated pilot valve is partially closed to reduce the flow in the byepass and cause the main valve to close. Delivery continues slowly through the byepass until the indicator reaches its zero position whereupon the associated pilot valve closes to stop delivery. Specifications 637,155 and 649,087 are referred to.
