Abstract

648,814. Stuffiing-box substitutes. CRANE PACKING, Ltd., Sept. 3, 1946, No. 26508. [Class 122(v)] A fluid seal comprises a rotary sealing ring 13 carried by the outer wall of a substantially U-shaped flexible sealing ring carrier 3 fitting upon a rotary member such as a shaft 1, the ring being maintained in contact with a stationary post 14 by a spring or springs 12 housed within the carrier and abutting a shoulder 11 of a drive ring 6 which extends beyond the carrier to fit directly on the shaft and terminates in means for rotational driving engagement with the sealing ring. The means comprise a tooth 15 on the drive ring engaged with a slot 16 in the sealing ring.
