[Class 146 (i)] A card index cabinet having a drawer consisting of telescopically connected parts is characterized by a number of partitions located within the drawer, the partitions being interconnected with another, and with the drawer in such a manner that the effect of pulling out the drawer increases the spacing of the lower edges of the partitions, while closing of the drawer causes the original spacing to be restored. The cabinet 1, Fig. 1, comprises four drawers, each carried on rails 3 and consisting of sections 4 and 5 connected by rails 6 slidably carried on stamped out parts 28 of the section 5. Each drawer is provided with a card box as shown in Fig. 2 consisting of three portions 17, 171 and 1711, connected to the drawer by pins 23<SP>1</SP> at one end and pins 23 engaging slots 24 in the rail 6 and section 5 at the other end. Lazy tongs comprising toggle members 8 and 9 and rods 7 are secured at both ends to the portions 171 and 17<SP>11</SP> by means of pivots 21, 21, 22, and 13 which engage slots 11, 12, 14 and 14 respectively. Partition walls 10 pivotally attached to the rods 7 serve as partitions between several card groups which are supported on rails 19 and 20 provided at the bottom of the box. When the drawer is shut, the upper pivots 21 and 22 rest in the upper ends of the upper slots 12 and 14, while the lower pivots 21 and 13 rest in the left and right hand ends of the slots 11 and 14 respectively. When the drawer is being pulled out the pivots 21 slide in their slots 11 and 12, until the upper pivot 21 reaches the end of the slot 12 and then slides downwards such that the card box and lazy tongs are then pulled out. As a result of friction and inertia of the cards the cards and their partitions 10 will then slope to the right.
