Abstract

648,211. Electric heating elements. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and RYCROFT, J. L. Dec. 17, 1948, No. 32718. [Class 39(iii)] A heating wire 3 embedded in refractory insulating material 2 in a metal sheath 1 is surrounded at its ends by contact members 4 extending into the sheath to lie against or adjacent to the termination of the insulating material, a heat resisting composition 6 filling the space between each contact member 4 and the sheath and embracing the external surface of the sheath at that end. The heat resisting composition 6 may be powdered glass and mica, injection moulded under heat and pressure, and may couple together the heater ends as shown. The contact member 4 may be a plug having a part 5 of reduced diameter for insertion into the sheath. The heating element may be cast within a cooking utensil and a thermal device may be included for ejecting a supply socket when a dangerous temperature is reached.
