Abstract

647,459. Seats. BRIGGS MANUFACTURING CO. Dec. 23, 1948, No. 33200. [Class 52 (ii)] A front seat for a two-door vehicle is arranged whereby either end may be swung horizontally to afford access to a rear seat through a doorway. Secured to the floor at each end of the front seat is a curved T- shaped track, the tracks being duplicated the left hand arrangement only will be described. Co-operating with the bottom track 23 is a slide 24 which rides on the track by means of balls 25, with a ball 26 at the front end and a roller at the rear end. At the front the slide 24 is carried by a bracket 29 above which is. pivoted about stud 31 a second bracket 30 carrying a rectilinear top track 33 cooperating, by means of balls 35, 36, with a top slide 34 secured, to the frame 21 of the seat. At the rear the top track and slide 33, 34 is connected to a bracket 37 secured to the bottom slide 24 through a short transverse curved 'track and slide 38, 39 to permit the seat to swivel about the pivot stud, corresponding to stud 31, on the slide at the other end of the seat. Accordingly the seat may be swung forwardly at either end to permit access to rear seat through the appropriate door and also allow the seat to slide as a whole forwardly and backwardly to adjust its distance from the controls. Latch means are provided at either end for locking the bottom track and slide together by means of a wire cable 47, 48 from a handle positioned at the upper part of the seat. A known latch means is also provided for locking the top track and slide 33, 34 after adjustment, fore and aft, of the seat.
