647,449. Endless-belt conveyers. DAILY MIRROR NEWSPAPERS, Ltd., GIBSON, W., and HIGGS, R. A. Sept. 8, 1948, No. 23606. [Class 78 (i)] Cylindrical bodies are discharged from an endless belt by means of their own momentum by providing an arm which is struck by the body and adapted to transmit the motion to means exerting a thrust on the side of the body causing it to roll off the belt. A roll of newsprint A is conveyed by an endless belt 1 having a concave upper surface. An arm 8 provided with a roller 9 is pivoted at 10 to a bracket 11 on a lever 13 which is also pivoted to a carriage 5 by means of a shaft 12. Arm 8 normally rests against a stop on the bracket 11 but can be lifted out of the path of body A when desired about the pivot 10. When in position, however, the roll A transmits a movement via the arm A to lever 13, which transmits a parallel motion to a bar 14 disposed parallel to belt 1, by utilizing a link 15 pivoted to carriage 5 and bar 14 so that it is parallel to lever 13. Bar 14 through rollers 17 mounted on it pushes the roll sideways off the conveyer, Fig. 2. Carriage 5 travels along the side of the belt 1 on rollers 6 and is guided in a slot 4 in which a roller 7 is located. Carriage 5 may be transferred to a similar slot 4 on the opposite side for changing the side of delivery and is locked in the desired position.
