Abstract
647,427. Centrifugal compressors. MACHINEFABRIEK GEB. STORK & CO., N. V. Feb. 24, 1948, No. 5509. Convention date, Dec. 23, 1947. [Class 110(i)] [Also in Group XXXIV] A compressor for circulating gases under a pressure of :at least 50 atmospheres is housed in a pressure-resistant casing, and its bearings are lubricated by a closed oil circuit which is in communication with the gas circuit. 'The compressor 60 and its driving motor 50 are housed in a cylindrical casing 7 having a bulkhead 13 separating the inlet and discharge openings 9. 11. Lubricating oil is supplied at 16 to each bearing housing 24 from a conduit 15 fed by a gear pump 18. Excess oil is drained at 17 and returns by way of a conduit 14 to the pump 18. To prevent oil vapour from escaping from the housings 24, gas is tapped off from an intermediate point 25 of the compressor and fed to labyrinth glands 22. The gas returns by way of vents 26, conduit 40, oil separator 20 and conduit 21 to the inlet 9. Gas from the point 25 is also fed by way of a conduit 33 to the casing 29 containing the pump 18, to subject the casing to the pressure of the circulating gases and to keep the driving motor 34 cool and free from oil vapour. The gas subsequently passes to the oil separator 20. The bearing chambers 24 may be maintained at a pressure lower than that of the gas surrounding them, in which case the chambers exhaust into the outer atmosphere.
