Abstract

647.114. Corsets. TRIGGS, W. W. (Newman & Sons, Inc., I.). June 18, 1948, No. 16426. [Class 141] A girdle comprises a front portion formed by overlapping pieces of material 15, 16 the lower edge of each piece extending upwardly from the lower edge of an adjacent side portion 14 to a point X or Y at the opposite side portion. The two pieces 15, 16 are preferably inelastic with their weave lines parallel to their face lower edges 20, 21, their upper and side edges 17, 18, 19 being secured together. The side panels 14 are preferably stretchable at least in their lower parts. The back panel may also comprise two layers 25, 26 with free sloping upper edges 30, 31 parallel to the weave lines but sewn together along the lines 27, 28, 29. Fastening elements 35 may be provided on the curved front edge 19 to engage corresponding elements 36 provided on a straight side edge 37 so that when the garment is fastened about the wearer it follows the natural hip curve. in a modification, the back panel is composed of a single layer of material having a sloping upper edge, one of the side panels being formed with a projecting strip at the top which extends downwardly across the back panel to the other side seam.
