Abstract

Dibenzylmethylamine is prepared from dibenzylketone by treatment with ammonia and hydrogen under pressure in presence of a hydrogenation catalyst. The preferred conditions are at 60 DEG C., 10-12 kgs. per sq. cm., in presence of Raney nickel and a solvent such as methanol or ethanol. The hydrochloride is prepared by treatment with hydrochloric acid. Dibenzyl ketone is also treated with hydroxylamine to give the ketoxime, which is catalytically hydrogenated to the same amine. Examples (2) are given. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises the preparation of diphenylalkylamines by treatment in the same way of a diphenylalkylketone. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
