Abstract
646,329. Sewing - machines. FAIR - WEATHER, W. C. (Singer Manufacturing Co.). Oct. 22. 1948, No. 27504. [Class 112] Loop-stitching.- In buttonhole stitching mechanism similar to that described in Specifications 179,278, [Class 112], and 617,036, comprising an eyed needle, two loopers such as 26 and two loop-retainers 28, 29. the loop-retainers are arranged and actuated so that they do not shed a loop until the next loop has been engaged by the appropriate looper; this improves stitch-forming, and in addition prevents lifting of the work by the needle, which otherwise occurs with some materials and results in missed stitches owing to consequent prevention of formation of needle loops. As in the previous arrangements the loopers are oscillated by connection to a sleeve 41 reciprocated by a sliding member 43 connected by a link 45 to a crank 46 on a shaft which is geared to a pinion 49 driven intermittently through a starwheel 51 from the main under-shaft 32, and the loop-retainers are actuated by a similar sleeve 64; in the present arrangement the sleeve 64 is reciprocated by similar mechanism to that actuating the loopers, from a second shaft similarly geared to the pinion 49.
